Alfred Wegeners hypothesis that the continents are drifting and had once formed a huge landmass before breaking apart is just 100 years old and was for quite some time very unpopular! Early evidence for the theory were fossil patterns across continents, mountain ranges and the shape of the continents. The continental drift has been proved now with modern measurement techniques.
